 2023 Preview 


       Charles Henderson completed the 2022 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Charles Henderson captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Trojans since the 2013 season. The Trojans won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 5A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Ramsay at the Alabama Super Seven 41-20 in Auburn.

       The Trojans improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2017. The Trojans won as many games as in any season since 2013. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Trojans qualified for the playoffs. The Trojans hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Hambrite saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 2-8 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Charles Henderson has gone a combined 83-66. Their 55.7% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Charles Henderson has managed to compile a record of 167-112. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 5A and 91st in the AHSAA.




       The Trojans are led by head coach Quinn Hambrite who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-10 over the past two seasons at Charles Henderson. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Hambrite. Over the course of his career, Coach Hambrite's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time and won one region championship.

       This could be the best team ever in Troy for Charles Henderson. After coming up just short in Auburn last year look for the Trojans to be back in the hunt for a championship in 2023. A very difficult schedule with the likes of Pike County, Mary Montgomery, Beauregard and St. James will only serve to prove the team is ready for a return trip to the Super Seven this season. The Trojans have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-46 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 5A and 24th in the AHSAA.

       The Trojans enter the 2023 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Trojans enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region two and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 5A Super Seven come December.

      QB Parker Adams will be returning after completing 168 of 286 passes for 2,580 yards last season along with 28 touchdowns.

      Junior Antonio Frazier will be back this season at running back after rushing for 627 yards and 4 TDs in 2022. Receiver Jywon Boyd will return after grabbing 60 passes good for 1,218 yards and 20 TDs as a junior last season.

      Zion Grady is considered one of the the states best football prospects in the class of 2025 and will be back at defensive end for the Trojans.

       The Trojans open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Pike County on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Pike County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in fourth place in Class 3A region two. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 27-7.

       Charles Henderson and Pike County have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 29-12-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1999 with Pike County winning by a score of 14-12.

       Charles Henderson lost 5A All-State  linebacker Damien Hart to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

       The Trojans return 5A All-State Senior receiver Jywon Boyd. He was named to the first team last season. The Trojans also return Junior defensive lineman Zion Grady. He was named to the first team. The Trojans also return Senior offensive lineman Benton Dunn. He was named to the second team. The Trojans also return Senior quarterback Parker Adams. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Trojans also return Senior punter Nik Peerson. He was named to the honorable mention team.
